What is Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC)?
Dynamic mesh communication (DMC) is a networking technology that allows live in-vehicle connections. DMC will adapt based on the behavior of units in a network to ensure communication is maintained in the best way possible. If one unit leaves the network, all other units work together to leap frog that signal. Once a unit comes back within range it automatically re-joins the group.
What is the difference between DMC Gen2 and Gen1?
DMC Gen2 brings significant improvementsimplified and lightning fast pairing process, as well as a crystal clear wideband intercom sound.
- Easier and faster pairing process: The pairing is rapid, lightning-fast, pairing a group of 10 communicators takes no more than a few seconds. We’ve also simplified the process itself by removing the group admin function. With DMC gen 2 pairing has never been so easy and so fast.
- Wideband intercom: DMC gen 2 provides a crystal clear wideband intercom voice szecond to none. Expect sound quality akeen to a good video conference.
What is the difference between PACKTALK BOLD and PACKTALK EDGE?
PACKTALK EDGE offers several improved key features, including:
- Air Mount: a completely revolutionary, simple, and secure magnetic mount.
- DMC 2nd generation: lightning-fast pairing and a crystal clear wideband intercom voice
- A complete redesigned sound system by JBL
- An improved natural voice operation with an improved noise-filtering microphone.
PACKTALK EDGE is powered by Bluetooth 5.2, and also features in addition:
- Fast charging: 2 hours of talk time after 20 minutes of charge
- A robust USB Type-C port
- Over-the-air software uploaded via the Cardo Connect app.
Will it pair with any other Bluetooth intercom?
Yes, Cardo intercom systems come with universal connectivity. It will pair with any other Bluetooth communication system by Cardo or by other leading brands.
With Midland, Uclear and Sena latest generations communicators, the Bluetooth pairing will be identical as pairing to another Cardo unit.
In order to pair your unit with a non-Cardo headset please do the following:
- Start intercom pairing on your unit (please refer to your pocket guide or user manual on how to do it)
- On the other unit start universal pairing(if supported) or mobile phone pairing(if universal pairing is not supported)
- Wait For the pairing to complete
If my unit is splashed in mud, will it still work?
Sure. All Cardo units are mudproof/sandproof/waterproof/dustproof. This means you can ride in any condition, and enjoy top communication.
How can I update my unit?
No need for a cable, the Software update is Over the Air, using your mobile phone.
Download Cardo Connect app to your mobile phone, go to Settings, select your unit, and then click on the latest available sofware update. Of course, you can also update the software with a USB cable on your computer. Download and open the Cardo Update app from Cardo website, connect your unit and follow the instructions. Updating with the latest software will keep your unit free of bugs and will provide you with additional new functionalities. We recommand to update your unit before first use.
What warranty does Cardo offer?
Cardo offers an extended 3-year warranty for PACKTALK EDGE, starting from the date of purchase, that covers product failures as detailed in the warranty document. Please keep your proof of purchase to reclaim your warranty.
What are the advantages of Bluetooth 5.2?
Your unit is equipped with the most advanced Bluetooth 5.2 chip in the market. It enables the integration of the latest audio technologies and improves significantly the quality of the Intercom. Bluetooth 5.2 is also more efficient and more secure, it offers faster pairing capabilities, as well as longer battery life.
What are the advantages of USB-C
A USB-C is more robust, it is easy to plug, and it fits with any standard USB-C cable. It also enables Fast Charging (2 hours talk time after 20 minutes of charging).
How long does the battery last?
Packtalk Outdoor will keep you connected for up to 10 hours at temperatures as low as -200C (-50F). Fast charge your unit for 20 minutes to get 2 hours of talk-time.
How can I get the best range out of my unit?
The range stated in the product description has been tested in optimal conditions. Actual range performance could potentially be adversely affected by obstacles to the line of sight such as mountains, trees, or powerlines.
Can I listen to music and be part of the intercom at the same time?
Yes, intercom and music streaming can be active at the same time. Whenever someone in the intercom network speaks, your PACKTALK will automatically lower the volume of your music so you can hear what they say.
Can I share my music with other PACKTALK EDGE off-road users?
Yes, you can easily share your favourite music during the drive with other passengers.
Will I still be connected when I'm out of the vehicle?
Yes, you are free to roam out of the vehicle and you will still be connected. The user-to user range is up to 1.6km/1mi. Actual range performance could potentially be adversely affected by obstacles to the line of sight such as mountains, trees, or powerlines.
Do I need to be connected to cellular when using PACKTALK EDGE?
No cellular coverage is needed, your always-on Intercom keeps you connected.
Can the PACKTALK EDGE connect to a built-in radio system?
PACKTALK EDGE is an independent system, it will not connect to a built-in radio.
How easy is PACKTALK EDGE to install?
Unlike existing built-in radio communication systems, PACKTALK EDGE can be easily installed on any helmet, by yourself, in the comfort of your home or at the dealership. View the installation video to see how easy it is to install.
Can I operate my unit through Cardo Connect App?
Yes, with Cardo Connect App, you can define your personal settings and operate the main features such as Intercom, Grouping, Music, Phone, update your unit over the air, and more.
Can I share music with any other Cardo unit?
You can share music with any Cardo unit from the same generation: PACKTALK EDGE, PACKTALK NEO, PACKTALK CUSTOM, FREECOM 4X, FREECOM 2X, Spirit HD, and Spirit.
Your unit will not be able to share music with products from previous generations (PACKTALK Bold/Black/Slim/Ducati/Louis, PACKTALK, SMARTPACK, SMARTH, FREECOM 2/4/1+/2+/4+, G-line, Q-line, SRC-line, SHO-1).
How should I charge my battery in a safe and efficient manner?
- You should charge your battery from a wall outlet while making sure that the plug-in AC/DC adapter meets the following criteria: Input: 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz, 0.2; Maximum Output: 5 V DC, 1 A; there is a risk of overheating and burning of the battery if charged otherwise.
- You should be aware that the battery charging surroundings temperature limits are 0° - 40°C (32°-104°F);
- You should not tamper with the battery; there is a risk of overheating and burning of the battery if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.”
How will it connect with Sena units?
Your device can seamlessly communicate with the latest generations of Sena, directly via the standard Bluetooth intercom.
- Pairing and communicating is the same as between two devices of the same brand. No need for universal pairing on either side. Follow the manuals’ instructions and start standard intercom pairing on both devices. Wait for the devices to pair. The intercom connection starts automatically after the pairing.
- You will keep the ability to receive phone calls, navigation instructions and listen to music or FM on either side (parallel audio is based on the support of specific models).
- Just as music sharing is not supported between two different generations of Cardo products, it won’t be possible to share music between different brands.

How can I record intercom conversations?
With Cardo Connect App (version 7.0 or higher), you can easily record your voice and Intercom conversation, save it to their Phone, and share it with just about anyone.
This feature is available for PACKTALK EDGE (including all derivatives), PACKTALK NEO and PACKTALK CUSTOM (with Platinum Package).
You can record any intercom conversation in DMC mode or using Bluetooth intercom bridge with any Bluetooth unit (Cardo or non-Cardo), it will be recorded as well.
