Cardo Systems empowers RAAM racers with the cardo BK-1®

Adding Communication Ease to the 3,000-Mile Race

Pittsburgh, PA (USA), June 10, 2013 - Cardo Systems, Inc., market leader in wireless Bluetooth® communication for riders, is bringing a new dimension to this year’s Race Across America (RAAM), the world’s toughest bicycle race, empowering racers with the cardo BK-1, the world’s first cycling communication system.

Starting in Oceanside, California on June 11th, RAAM will be hosting hundreds of professional and amateur cyclists from around the world to cover a total of 3,000 miles, ending the race only 13 days later in Annapolis, Maryland. For the first time, RAAM cyclists will have the opportunity to stay connected with the world around them and with their team members while using the cardo BK-1 communication system.

Rick Boethling, Executive Director of RAAM: "the cardo BK-1 is a superior communication system for cyclists and owing to its innovative design and communication features, we believe it is highly suitable for our RAAM racers and crew members, for better communication and a far safer riding experience.”

Abraham Glezerman, CEO of Cardo Systems: “We are very proud to partner with RAAM and empower the racers with the first worldwide communication and entertainment system developed especially for cyclists. The cardo BK-1 was designed to answer the needs of cyclists. It is no wonder the cardo BK-1 has been adopted by leading RAAM cyclists and their teams.”

The cardo BK-1 was introduced in 2012 and is available in bicycle shops across the country and worldwide. Tested under the harshest racing conditions, the cardo BK-1's advanced communications capabilities enable intercom communication between up to 5 cyclists up to 1,600 feet apart. Using the hands-free device, cyclists can also receive in-the-ear navigation instructions from Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones or GPS devices and listen to music from their MP3 players. When they wish, cyclists can answer phone calls using voice command technology, without removing their hands from the handlebars. Hovering speakers that do not touch the ears and a flexible microphone allow excellent audio quality without compromising comfort or safety.
